Day 1: Beijing

Arrive in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, the political and cultural center of this Asian giant. It has a population of more than 22 million. In history, more than 5 dynasties had made Beijing their capitals for over 800 years. Nowadays, it has shifted into a modern metropolis with important international influence. Transfer from airport / railway station to hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure. Accommodation

Day 2: Beijing

Breakfast + Lunch In the morning, we'll first visit Lama Temple, the most famous Tibetan Buddhist temple in Beijing. Originally, Lama Temple was built as a prince's mansion, inside of which the Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty was born. The 18-meter Maitreya statue in Lama Temple is the biggest Buddha statue in the world, carved from an entire piece of wood. We continue to take a Hutong Tour by Rickshaw. To get a better knowledge of the traditional Beijing lifestyle, Hutong (Narrow Alleys) and Siheyuan (Quadrangle) are the places that you can't miss. The best-preserved group of Hutong is in the area of Shichahai. Touring around by rickshaws, you can see the busy livelihood, antique Siheyuan, joyful Houhai Bar Street, and the typical local markets. In the afternoon, you'll visit Tian'anmen Square and Forbidden City. Tian'anmen Square, located in the center of Beijing, is the largest city square in the world. It occupies an area of 440,000 m², which allows it to contain 0.5 million people. Tian'anmen Square is surrounded by important buildings as Great Hall of People, Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall, etc. In 1949, Chairman Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China right here. The Forbidden City is today's last stop. The Forbidden City is the biggest existing palace complex in the world with a total area of 720,000 m². It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. Constructed from 1406 to 1420, it was the imperial palace for 24 emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the political center of China for more than 5 centuries. After visit, transfer to hotel & accommodation.

Day 3: Beijing

Breakfast + Lunch We start today by visiting Temple of Heaven. Listed as one of the World Cultural Heritage Sites, Temple of Heaven is where the Chinese emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties prayed to Heaven for good harvests. With an area of around 273 hm², it is 4 times as large as The Forbidden City. Built without a single nail, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest is the symbol of Temple of Heaven, and an icon of Beijing Tourism. In the afternoon, we continue to the Great Wall, the large-scaled defense wall built across North China to fight against various nomadic groups. Over 5,000 km, the Great Wall is one of the "Seven Wonders of the World", and a World Cultural Heritage Site. In 214 B.C, Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, joined the separated walls together to build "The Great Wall". Later, it has been rebuilt and maintained by many successive dynasties, especially during the period of Han Dynasty and Ming Dynasty. The Bird's Nest and Water Cube will be our last stop. The Bird's Nest and Water Cube are located along the central axis in the north of Beijing. Containing 100,000 people, The Bird's Nest is the National Stadium where the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games was held. The Water Cube is the National Aquatics Center, with a special appearance of a color-changing water drop. After visit, transfer to hotel & accommodation.

Day 4: Beijing / Xi´An

Breakfast Transfer to the railway station and take a Bullet Train to Xi'an. With a history of more than 3,000 years, Xi'an was the capital of 13 dynasties in China's history, e.g. the Qin Dynasty and Tang Dynasty. Xi'an is the starting point of "The Silk Road". Its ancient city walls are the best-preserved and largest in China. Transfer from railway station to hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure. Optional stop between Beijing and Xian: Luoyang

Day 5: Xi´An

Breakfast + Lunch We start off today with the Terra-Cotta Warriors.Terra-Cotta Warriors is one of the "Great Wonders of the World", and a World Cultural Heritage Site. The work on the Terra-Cotta Warriors was started around the 3rd century B.C, and lasted for 39 years. More than 8,000 life-sized pottery figurines of soldiers, chariots, and weapons were built to protect the emperor in his afterlife. Terra-Cotta warriors, discovered 2,000 years later, has attracted over 100 million tourists worldwide. In the afternoon, we continue to visit Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Muslim Quarter. Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a World Cultural Heritage Site, is a symbolic building in Xi'an. It was first built in the 7th century to preserve the Buddhist Sutras brought back by the Monk Xuanzang from India. Muslim Quarter, located at the center of Xi'an, was originally formed around 1,000 years ago, when the ancestors of the local Muslim arrived through the Silk Road from the Middle East. Muslim Quarter is a famous gourmet street with unique Muslim culture and bustling night market. After visit, transfer to hotel & accommodation.

Day 6: Xi'an / Lhasa

Breakfast Transfer to airport and take a flight to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet and the center of Tibetan Buddhism for over a millennium. The history of Lhasa originates from 641 A.D, when the Jokhang Temple was built. Lhasa was once the capital of the Tubo Kingdom, and the place where Dalai Lama used to live. Transfer from airport to hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 7: Lhasa

Breakfast + Lunch We first visit the Potala Palace. The Potala Palace, composed of the White and Red Palaces, is built on a mountain with an altitude of 3,700m. It is a renowned World Cultural Heritage Site built in the 7th century. It used to be the imperial palace for the Tubo Kingdom, then was rebuilt as a winter palace of the Dalai Lama. The preserved stupa of the 5th Dalai is nearly 15 meters high and composed of 4.4 tons of gold and 15,000 pearls, agate and precious stones. Continue your trip to the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street. Listed as one of the World Cultural Heritage Sites by UNESCO, the Jokhang Temple is the holiest destination for all Tibetan pilgrims, from where the city of Lhasa was born. The Jokhang Temple holds the 12-year-old life-size Sakyamuni statue, which sits at the center of the three circumambulation paths, and holds great cultural and religious importance. Barkhor is the oldest and busiest commercial district in Lhasa. It is usually considered to be the Ring Road surrounding the Jokhang Temple and the Jokhang Temple Square. The Ring Road is also known as a circumambulation path, where many devout disciples turn Prayer Wheels and kowtow. After visit, transfer to hotel & accommodation.

Day 8: Lhasa

Breakfast + Lunch We start with Drepung Monastery. Built in 1416, Drepung Monastery is situated in the western suburb of Lhasa. It is one of the largest monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism, and the most significant for Gelug sect. Drepung monastery is also a Buddhism school known for its high academic standards. Before the reconstruction of the Potala Palace, the regime of the Dalai Lama was settled here. Then visit Sera Monastery. Built in 1419, Sera Monastery is in the northern suburb of Lhasa. It is a Monastery of Gelug Sect in Tibetan Buddhism. Lamas debate on Buddhist sutras here every day in order to learn about Buddhism theories. This forms a unique cultural scene in the Tibetan area. In the afternoon, visit Norbulingka. As a part of the "Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace", Norbulingka is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and considered to be the largest garden in Tibet. In the western suburb of Lhasa, Norbulingka was first built in the 18th century, served as the traditional summer residence of the 7th Dalai and his successors. It was built by four Dalai Lamas in a total time of two centuries. After visit, transfer to hotel & accommodation.

Day 9: Lhasa / Shanghai

Breakfast Transfer to airport and fly to Shanghai. After landing, transfer to hotel in Shanghai, a direct-controlled municipality, famous globalized metropolis and the busiest harbor. It owns the most skyscrapers in the world. With a population of more than 24 million, Shanghai is the business and financial center of China, known as the "New York of the East". Transfer from airport to hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 10: Shanghai

Breakfast + Lunch We first visit the Yuyuan Garden and the Old Town "Cheng Huang Miao" (City God Temple). Yuyuan Garden, built in 1559, is one of the "Five Classical Gardens in Shanghai". It has an area of around 20,000 m² and owns the longest water corridor in South China. "Cheng Huang Miao", the most famous Taoist temple in Shanghai, was built in 1403. Nowadays, the area of "Cheng Huang Miao" is crowded with all kinds of stores and restaurants. Continue to visit Jade Buddha Temple. Jade Buddha Temple is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Shanghai. It was built in 1882, in a popular style of Song Dynasty of the 11th century. China's biggest Buddha statue, made of an entire piece of finest Burmese jade, is enshrined and worshiped here. In the afternoon, take a walk in the Bund. Known as "Museum of International Architecture", the Bund is located along the bank of Huangpu River, with a length of 1.5 km. As an important landmark of Shanghai, it's an epitome of the Semi-colonial and semi-feudal China, and was the financial and trade center of Shanghai. Then take a Huangpu River Cruise tour. The Huangpu River is the last tributary of the Yangtze River, separating Shanghai into two parts: Puxi and Pudong. It is called "the Mother River of Shanghai". During Huangpu River Cruise, you can get a better view of the important landmarks of The Bund and the Lujiazui Financial Area. After visit, transfer to hotel & accommodation.

Day 11: Shanghai

Breakfast Transfer to the airport / railway station. End of the trip or extension to another package.
